THE NEED FOR HOTEL INTERNAL AUDITS
The need for hotel internal audits and surprise inspections could not be more apparent then now.
Last month we discussed how the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted employee fraud in the workplace.
Recent studies suggest an uptick in unethical behavior and theft by both guests and employees during and immediately following the economic covid-19 recession.
Hotel general managers (GM’s) are challenged each day to solve staff personnel problems, make hard decisions that can favor one group of employees over another, and balance budgets in ways that may harm some of their employees.
Theft is a key concern. General managers see theft as both an issue at their own hotel and an industry problem; and have experienced both small and large thefts.
Skeleton crews exist at the corporate level as well as at the individual hotels.
Why are internal audits and inspections so important?
It is important having an independent expert perform surprise inspections and verify procedures are being completed on a daily basis in order to limit opportunities and minimize the occurrences of theft.
